چکیده

This paper describes a doubly balanced Gilbert Cell mixer designed in BJT and CMOS technology to operate within 0 to 5 V. A 100 mv input signal was applied at both RF and LO port at different frequencies and their simulation curves were studied for a multiplier. The design done in BJT was taped out for fabrication and the chip on its return from foundry, was tested for its results. A comparison of theoretical and experimental results obtained after fabrication of the Four-Quadrant Gilbert cell mixer in 2-micron process is made. For CMOS process, Gilbert cell mixer was designed till the layout and was ready for handoff to the foundry. The chip was not fabricated in CMOS technology, but the output results were studied and compared in both BJT and CMOS technology.

An Efficient Technique for Substrate Coupling Parasitic Extraction with Application to RF/Microwave Spiral Inductors (RESEARCH NOTE)

This paper presents an efficient modeling method, based on the microstrip lines theory, for the coupling between a substrate backplane and a device contact. We derive simple closed-form formulas for rapid extraction of substrate parasitics. We use these formulas to model spiral inductors as important substrate-noise sources in mixed-signal systems. The proposed model is verified for the freque...

Minimising Contrastive Divergence in Noisy, Mixed-mode VLSI Neurons

This paper presents VLSI circuits with continuous-valued probabilistic behaviour realized by injecting noise into each computing unit(neuron). Interconnecting the noisy neurons forms a Continuous Restricted Boltzmann Machine (CRBM), which has shown promising performance in modelling and classifying noisy biomedical data. The Minimising-Contrastive-Divergence learning algorithm for CRBM is also ...

Mixed-signal VLSI for neural and fuzzy sequential processors

A sequentiality study for mixed-signal VLSI implementations of neuro/fuzzy feedforward algorithms is presented. Implications of sequential processing and mixed-signal operation are derived. Basic building blocks for sequential mixed-signal neural and fuzzy computing are proposed, and two sequential example processors are described. Feedback from designed processors and subcircuits allows consid...

Wafer-Level Defect Screening for "Big-D/Small-A" Mixed-Signal SoCs

Product cost is a key driver in the consumer electronics market, which is characterized by low profit margins and the use of a variety of “big-D/small-A” mixed-signal system-on-chip (SoC) designs. Packaging cost has recently emerged as a major contributor to the product cost for such SoCs. Wafer-level testing can be used to screen defective dies, thereby reducing packaging cost. We propose a ne...

Design Space Tradeoff in VLSI Implementations of Mixed-Signal Neuro-Fuzzy Processors

Mixed-signal VLSI design provides a tradeoff between the fast and compact but fixed analog implementations of neuro/fuzzy feedforward algorithms and the programmable but area and power consuming digital counterparts. In this paper, a sequentiality study of such systems is performed. Basic blocks for sequential mixed-signal neural and fuzzy computing are proposed, and two sequential example proc...

A VLSI Implementation of Mixed-Signal mode Bipolar Neuron Circuitry

Abstract —Neuron circuits have parallel operation features. VLSI implemented Neuron networks are suitable for high speed and low power consumption applications. Digital implementations have good noise immunity while analog neuron circuits have smaller size. This paper presents a mixed-signal neuron design. It uses digital input, output, and weight signals while keeps analog internal operation. ...
